The Company
Caledonian Glass
was formed in 1984 by three students at the Glasgow School of Art -
Gerry Rafferty, Kate Fisher and Jim Blackwood.
 |
Gerry
is our principal designer for leaded work and has carried out commissions all
over Scotland but especially in his native Glasgow. His inspirational
sources include the Bauhaus, Le Courboisier and the paintings
of Mondrian. He received acclamation for his window series at the
National Jazz Centre in Chicago and is honoured that Ornette Coleman
composed a musical tribute to him. |
 |
Kate
specialises in restoration and has a particular interest in Arts
and Crafts furniture. She spent a year studying at the
Frank Lloyd Wright Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona and has also
studied the work of Horta in Brussels and Paris. She has undertaken
restoration work at Alexandra Palace in North London and recently
received an RIBA award for her innovative doors and windows for
the Macgregor Arts Centre in Dundee. |
 |
Jim
has a reputation for being able to turn his hand and imagination
to any subject - his creations include many fabulous caskets, mirrors,
mobiles, lamps, sconces and 3D objects of every description. He
has a great eye for colour tones and textures and has created stunning
effects in ornamantal lighting for many public buildings - the
Grove Hotel, Whitstable; Bolton Town Hall; the Islamic Centre,
Glasgow. |
