A Secession congregation was formed in 1789, which became Wellwynd
Congregation. Until a building could be erected, it met in a tent.
Then a second building was built in 1847 and was used by the congregation
until the union in 1995.
The West Parish Story began in 1834 when the ‘Friends
of the Church of Scotland’ were motivated to build a church
to serve the town. This is now the building used by The New Wellwynd.
Many changes have taken place over the years, not
least the union in 1995. Our building stands in the town centre
as a reminder of our christian heritage. We are justly proud of
that heritage and the Christian witness in Airdrie over the years.
